The pointer, also known as the English Pointer was developed centuries ago by a crossing among the Italian Pointer, the Foxhound, the Bloodhound, the Greyhound, the Newfoundland, the Setter and the Bulldog. Unbelievable mix, but produced an outstanding breed that has been a very successful hunting dog for decades.
The Irish Setter is a fine all around hunting dog and is derived from a variety of spaniels, setters and pointers. In the 19th century, following intensive selective breeding efforts, the red setter emerged winning prizes for performance and hearts for beauty.
